Hearing aids may reduce dementia progression for at-risk patients, study finds

DENVER (KDVR) — A new study published in The Lancet medical journal this week shows people with a high risk of developing dementia could cut that risk by 48% with the use of hearing aids."This was really an exciting study," said Dr. Julie Prutsman at Sound Relief Hearing Center in Highlands Ranch. "We've known for years that there is a connection or a link between untreated hearing loss and cognitive decline or dementia." (KDVR) -- Homeowners with fences backing to County Line Road in Centennial reached out to the Problem Solvers after they reached a breaking point following a dangerous crash that happened Monday. “In the 12 years we've lived here we have probably seen 20 plus crashes," Manny Barela, who owns a home backing to County Line Road said. A City of Miami official delivered some much-needed supplies for students ahead of their return to the classroom.Students may still be on their summer break, but District 4 Miami Commissioner Manolo Reyes on Wednesday helped hand out more than 500 backpacks filled with classroom essentials to children at the Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade.“We showed them that school is important, and I talked to them, and they promised me that they’re going to do their homework and pay attention and all of that,” said Reyes, “and I really love doing this, because children are the future of the world.”Wednesday’s distribution is one of many back-to-school activities with the goal of delivering a total of 6,000 backpacks to schools and summer camps in the City of Miami to help families in need.

Dorchester mom describes moment man stole pickup truck with her baby inside

The mother of a baby left on a sidewalk in Dorchester last week is now speaking out, describing heartstopping moments when police say someone stole a truck with her child inside. The incident happened on Friday near the intersection of Geneva Avenue and Westville Street. Police said the thief in this case was riding a bike in the area around 3 p.m. He then got off the bike, according to police, and jumped into the truck. Surveillance video obtained by 7NEWS showed the thief drove roughly one block before getting out of the truck and leaving the baby in a car seat on the curb near Leroy Street. Another person quickly arrived to pick up the baby. About an hour later, police said officers located the stolen truck on Columbia Road.Though no one was hurt, the baby’s mother told 7NEWS her daughter is just 22 days old. The mother said she and her family were standing steps from the truck when it was taken and said the situation was terrifying as she was unable...

A man who was wanted for stealing a van carjacked two additional vehicles during a dangerous pursuit through the San Fernando Valley Wednesday afternoon.The Los Angeles Police Department began tracking the suspect after learning he was wanted for stealing a van at a gas station in Ventura round 9 a.m., officials said. The stolen van was first spotted by LAPD officers in the North Hollywood area around 11 a.m. and they began to chase the suspect, police said. At some point, two LAPD officers were involved in a crash and the chase was called off. Different officers spotted the van again around noon, but quickly called off the pursuit again because of the suspect's erratic driving, police said. JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel announced Wednesday that it would be allowing all American citizens, including dual-nationality Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip, to enter the country through its international airport as part of an agreement to qualify for a visa waiver program with the U.S.Israel has pushed for years to secure visa-free entry for its citizens to the U.S., a privilege enjoyed by 40 countries, mostly in Europe and Asia.
