Hostess, the maker of snack classics like Twinkies and HoHos, is being sold to J.M. Smucker in a cash-and-stock deal worth about $5.6 billion. Smucker, which makes everything from coffee to peanut butter and jelly, will pay $34.25 per share in cash and stock, and it will also pick up approximately $900 million in net debt. NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are ticking higher Monday as Wall Street recovers some of its losses from last week.The S&P 500 was 0.4% higher in early trading, coming off its first losing week in the last three. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 151 points, or 0.4%, at 34,728, as of 9:45 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.5% higher.Like last week, some big technology-oriented stocks were leading the way. Tesla jumped 6.2%, and Meta Platforms rose 2%. Tech stocks led the market lower last week as yields climbed in the bond market. SIDON, Lebanon (AP) — Fighting intensified in Lebanon’s largest Palestinian refugee camp Monday claiming the life of another person as stray bullets and shells hit residential areas in the country’s third-largest city.The fighting that resumed Thursday night after nearly a month of calm in Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp near the port city of Sidon between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah group and militant Islamist groups has left six people dead and more than 50 wounded according to medical officials and state media. FWC officers, biologist rescue bear cub trapped in tree

Officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) joined forces with a bear biologist to rescue a young bear cub that had found itself in an unusual predicament. According to a Facebook post on FWC’s page, the incident unfolded when FWC officers received a call about a bear cub with its hind paw firmly wedged in the crook of a tree. The officers immediately sought the expertise of a bear biologist to assist in freeing the trapped cub. For two hours, the team worked tirelessly under the scorching sun as they avoided the cub’s sharp claws and teeth. Attempts to pry the tree limbs apart and even using dish soap to lubricate the entangled leg proved unsuccessful. As a last resort, an officer found a local resident who provided the team with a chainsaw.
