Leadville resident raises almost half a milllion just by passing people

DENVER (KDVR) — On Saturday, a Leadville resident continued his eight-year tradition of raising money for the community. Ty Hall starts in dead last on the Stages Cycling Leadville Trail 100 MTB, for every person he passes, people pledge or donate to the Leadville Legacy Foundation. The donations usually range from 10 cents to $10 or more. This year, Hall passed 1,546 out of 1,787 participants and raised $72,357 and counting. Quincy Plant Operator Sued Over Alleged Pollution

A new federal lawsuit accuses the operators of a manufacturing plant in Quincy of violating federal permit limits and standards, and polluting nearby waters with oil and grease, heavy metals, and other harmful substances. The alleged violations of the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act are laid out in a suit announced Tuesday by the Conservation Law Foundation and filed against Twin Rivers Technologies, which since 1994 has owned and operated a fatty acid and glycerin manufacturing facility at 780 Washington St. The Quincy plant is located across the Fore River from a natural gas compressor station in North Weymouth that was built despite widespread opposition from residents of the region who for years expressed health and safety concerns. (CNN) — With only a quarter of the Maui wildfire burn area searched, the death toll of what’s already the deadliest US wildfire in more than a century still could rise significantly, Hawaii authorities said Monday.At least 99 people have been confirmed dead from the wildfires, and the number could double over the next 10 days, Hawaii Gov. MBTA chief safety officer to resign Aug. 30, New York consultant will lead department during search

Portion of Mass Pike in Framingham reopens after jackknifed truck caused lengthy backups

A portion of the Mass Pike in Framingham that closed down for more than an hour and half Tuesday has reopened to all traffic.A tractor trailer that became jackknifed in the area of mile-marker 112 closed down all eastbound lanes on the busy thoroughfare around 11 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. But the road reopened just before 12:45 p.m.Officials did not say whether the incident, which is under investigation, caused any injuries. The crash led to lengthy backups on both sides of the road.
